Often it is drummed into dieters that snacking will do harm to your weight loss targets and therefore should be avoided. In reality there is nothing wrong with a few snacks between meals as long as the snack is healthy and nutritional. So what sort of healthy snack ideas exist?
One mistake commonly made when on a diet is eating a very small breakfast which of course means in the lead up to lunch time you are feeling very hungry and end up having a lunch that is very high in fat or sugar to satisfy the feeling of hunger and craving. It is of course far better to eat a slightly bigger but healthy breakfast that is going to keep you going until lunch time. Make sure you are also drinking plenty of water which fights hunger. However there are snacks you can include in your weight loss diet that will not have a detrimental effect on your weight loss.
You shouldn’t be so strict on yourself that you never allow yourself a so called ‘bad treat’ just that you really need to limit these treats as much as possible in your weight loss program. Excessively sugary foods are damaging to your tooth enamel and foods high in fat content are bad for your cholesterol so limiting your intake of these kinds of foods will not only do good for your weight loss plan but also for your health in general.
A good rule to follow is the 80/20 rule, which basically means healthy nutritional food should make up 80% of your diet and the 20% can be anything you like. The key is to have a balanced and varied diet, this way your body is recieving everything it needs and then some. Starving yourself is neither safe or the answer, being selective about what foods you eat is the way to go.
